What a perfect day for a ride in the country side checking out some of Adelaide most beautiful vantage points to admire. The ride started from BP (cnr Portrush & Magill Rd), a starting location which will NOT be done there again by myself on the basis . . . . . IT HAD NO COFFEE !!
13 bikes and 15 riders/pillions attended this 24 degree perfect riding weather day including 2 new guests an amazing number since it was Bathurst Sunday.
From 10am we run up Magill road into the hills, through Norton Summit where my first time as a ride leader actually made a wrong turn, and split the pack by the time we made it to Lobethal the pack was back together and on track. Our 1ststop was Kangaroo Creek Dam Lookout after a brief stint through the gorge. Stopped for about 20 min, admired the view before heading onto our next stop through Paracombe then back up through Chain of ponds Williamstown and onto our 2nd stop Whispering Wall. Stopped for about 30 min before setting out on a nice cruise back through Williamstown and onto Springton and stopping at Mount Pleasant for a pleasant lunch. Thanks to Paul who recommended the ride name be changed to something like “Andy’s DAM ride” or Andy’s Dam Vantage ride” since apparently we passed by 5 or 6 dams etc. – I will leave that one open till the ride planning meeting in December sometime.
This is where we lost several riders due to other commitments. At this point I gracefully changed ride leaders not for any reason except I would rather someone who knew the area take control, saves me getting lost.
From Mount Pleasant we wound towards Mount Torrens, Uraidla and onto Mount Lofty where the view was spectacularand the remaining rider’s congregated gearing up for the next and final leg of the ride. Mount Lofty saw the departure of yet another rider and pillion for their trip home.
The final leg saw us wind up through Belair and onto Windy point Lookout where the view was just as spectacular. Winding up at 3:15pm with a total of about 199.7km.A perfect ride distance with a central finishing point with great company and not too many Numb Bums.
Comments passed by Fred and various other members was this is one ride which will definitely have to be added to the ride calendar for 2015. Thanks to all who attended the ride. I hope you had as much fun as I did and I personally look forward to the next one.
